Our story began decades ago when Mogami scientists began researching the causes of audible differences within signal cable. The research was both groundbreaking and controversial, as most engineers at the time thought all cable sounded the same.

Mogami’s approach was unique. We invested years into researching low-loss signal transfer, the result of which lead to the development of Mogami Neglex, a series of cables that changed an entire industry.

In 1974, Rob Turner started EMG in the back of his parents’ garage by building various electronic gadgets and repairing amplifiers. He had played around with pickups as early as 1969 but didn’t get around to “business” until a few years later. Rob got his first business license under the name of Dirtywork Studios in April 1976.  In 1983 we became EMG, Inc.

We all discovered the Floyd Rose tremolo system through the players. Many of rock's premiere guitarists have made Floyd Rose their weapon of choice. Eddie Van Halen took the electric guitar to new heights and was one of the very first to sling a Floyd. Other early gang members included: Neil Schon, Brad Gillis, Vivian Campbell, Dweezil Zappa, Richie Sambora and Mick Mars. Floyd Rose is proud of this heritage and the continued patronage from these and other fine players.
